The physicians at Novant Health WomanCare deliver babies at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, a state-of-the-art hospital just five minutes from our office in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Maya Angelou Women's Health & Wellness Center within the hospital offers complete obstetric care, including prenatal and post-natal care for routine and high-risk pregnancies, as well as a neonatal intensive care unit should your baby require special care after birth.
The hospital is committed to making your stay as comfortable as possible for you, your baby and your loved ones. Your birthing partner is welcome to stay in your room the entire time you are in the hospital, and you are encouraged to keep your new addition with you the entire time as well! At the Maya Angelou Women's Health & Wellness Center, "rooming in" is encouraged. The benefits of keeping your baby with you instead of sending the child to a traditional hospital nursery are significant. This practice allows the natural bonding process between mother and child to start immediately and continue uninterrupted. Babies kept with their mothers often sleep better, cry less, feed more, gain weight better, and have less or no jaundice. You will benefit by getting to know your baby better, learning about feeding cues quicker and developing good feeding habits early on.
You will have an opportunity to tour the hospital and ask additional questions before you deliver.
When to go to the hospital
If you go into labor during office hours, please call us at 336-765-5470 for instructions. If you go into labor when the office is closed, you may go directly to the hospital, or you may call 336-765-5470 for assistance from an on-call nurse. If you are more than 20 weeks along when you go into labor or have another obstetric or non-obstetric problem, please head straight to Labor and Delivery at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. If you are less than 20 weeks pregnant and have an emergency, go to the Emergency Department, where an ER physician will evaluate you and coordinate your care with the on-call physician from our office.
If you ever have an emergency and cannot get to the hospital, call 911 for assistance.
